After exploring critical debat... free essay sample

After exploring critical debate that surroundings this play I have found several reasons how the play presents Faustus as a damning folly and romantic rebel. I thing Faustus in the play shows a bit of both of romantic rebel and damning folly being presented after observing several passages in the play. One of the reason why I think Faustus represents a romantic rebel is when I observed this passage When Mephistophilis shall stand by me, What God can hurt thee, Faustus? Thou art safe. I conclude Doctor Faustus means he denies God in his life and he claims that God cannot hurt him any way. So from him saying this Faustus goes against God will and all gods glory, wich shows to be a romantic rebel.Faustus has couple passages that shows romatic rebel but he also has repesent damning folly in the play by also couple good passages with deep meaning. By him doing this he is his making a deal to sell his soul to the devil, His body try to stop him by making his blood clot he still continues by warming up his wound to make his blood flow again to finish fate with the Lucifer. From this passage i see that Doctor Faustus show a big amount of hints aiming towards being of a damning folly in this play. From Faustus being a man who damned his soul and fate to hell, Helps me to believe that Doctor Faustus is showed to be interpret as a damning folly. So far ive conclude how Faustus reprsents Damning folly by his commintment of damming his soul for enternity and not looking backor regretting his sacificed to worship lucifer. Another passage that helps show little bit of both romntic rebel and damnning folly is when he saysThe stars move still, time runs, the clock will strike,The devil will come, and Faustus must be damned.O Ill leap up to my God! Who pulls me down?See, see where Christs blood streams in the firmament! One drop would save my soul, half a drop: ah my Christ—Ah, rend not my heart for naming of my Christ;Yet will I call on him—O spare me, Lucifer! He is explaing his thoughts going in his head at the end when is getting drag down to hell. Faustus keeps going from one idea to the other dramticly trying to find an escape route from him commiting to lucifer and take back his sins.Faustus does get chance for redemption but get to the point of no retuen and his fate his seal i think that shows more of romanti c rebel in the end passage but damning folly being present rise before the end.
